Third Icon Class Ship, Legend of the Seas, Floated Out at Meyer Turku Shipyard

The third ship in the Icon class series, Legend of the Seas, has been floated out at Meyer Turku shipyard. The completed vessel will be delivered to Royal Caribbean in summer 2026.

The float-out ceremony of Legend of the Seas, built at Meyer Turku, took place on Friday, 29 August 2025. The traditional ceremony included speeches by representatives of the shipyard and the cruise line, a salute by the Karoliini artillery group, and a lighthearted competition to open the dock’s water valves. Over the following weekend, the vessel was moved to the outfitting quay, where final completion work will continue for nearly a year.

Legend of the Seas, alongside her sisters, will be a key milestone in increasingly sustainable shipbuilding.”

At 365 meters in length, nearly 50 meters in width, and with a gross tonnage of around 248,000, Legend of the Seas is the third Icon class ship. The first ship of the series, Icon of the Seas, was delivered to the customer in November 2023, and the second, Star of the Seas, in July 2025. Construction of the as-yet-unnamed Icon 4 is also underway at Meyer Turku and scheduled for delivery in 2027. Royal Caribbean has additionally announced options for a fifth and sixth vessel in the series.

In keeping with the hallmarks of the Icon class, the vessel features a massive glass-and-steel dome, the AquaDome, at its bow. Inside, guests will also find The Pearl, an immersive staircase that is integrated into the ship’s structural core. Legend will also offer eight themed neighbourhoods, numerous swimming pools, and around forty restaurants.

The Icon class ships are Royal Caribbean’s first LNG-powered vessels. Legend further enhances record-breaking energy efficiency with next-generation TSDF main engines. Together with other innovations such as shore power connections and waste heat recovery systems, the ship stands at the forefront of sustainable shipbuilding.

Legend of the Seas will be delivered to Royal Caribbean in summer 2026.
